Cheyne Runnells is a composer hailing from the beach of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. He graduated with a degree in music composition from the North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) in 2016, where he studied under Dr. Lawrence Dillon. His compositions draw from a wide variety of influences, both classical and modern, as his music seeks to combine the traditional classical instrumentation and sensibilities with contemporary rock and pop styles.

On the traditional side, Cheyne draws primary inspiration from Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and more recent composers such as Steve Reich and Eric Whitacre. But his primary musical background comes from rock music, spanning a wide variety of sub-genres from heavily progressive acts such as Rush, King Crimson and Yes to more pop-styled groups like Weezer and Coldplay.

Cheyne is a musical Worship Leader at Duck United Methodist Church.  He is a member of the contemporary worship band, playing guitar and occasional bass on Sunday mornings.

Ascencion Music Academy is pleased to have Cheyne on our faculty!  He offers lessons and classes in composition, and lessons in rock/pop guitar.  Sign up today!
